COBINA Co-Chairs Head Delegation to ARSOBO

Members of the Arizona Border Community (ABC) Health Network/Consejos Bi-nacionales de Salud, Ambos Nogales, (COBINA) paid a visit to the Arizona Sonora Border Project facilities (ARSOBO,) in Nogales, Sonora, to learn about the ground breaking cross-border initiative that provides training, jobs and assistive technology to the border region’s disabled population. Invited by ARSOBO Board member, Dr. William Neubauer, to tour the facility on August 27th, 2015, the new COBINA Co-Chairs Claudia Velasco, (SEAHEC) Nogales, Arizona, and Dr. Laurence Alegría (ISSSTE) Nogales, Sonora, led a delegation that included Robert Guerrero, Arizona’s Chief Office of Border Health, Nicolette Dent, and Aissa Acuña, COBINA secretary. ARSOBO is a “not-for-profit, non-governmental organization focused on alleviating the physical, psychological, and economic barriers faced by individuals with disabilities.” Founded in 2008 as a result of the first Border Conference on Disabilities sponsored by the University Centers for Excellence in Disabilities Education, Reasearch and Service (USEDD) ARSOBO provides “high-tech, low-cost medical devices such as wheelchairs, hearing aids and prosthetics, to help minimized their disability.” One of ARSOBO’s key accomplishments is the development of an all-terrain wheel… Continue reading
SEAHEC Staff Member Selected to Co-Chair Binational Health Council

SEAHEC staff member Claudia Velasco has been named to serve as the new Co-Chair of the Binational Health Councils,(COBINAS) Arizona Border Communities (ABC) Health Network. Ms. Velasco, who has served as secretary to the Network for the past three years, announced her appointment in July, 2015. She also had the pleasure of welcoming another SEAHEC staff member, Aissa Acuña, to take her place as Secretary. Continue reading
