Reposted from the Willcox Range News:  Kathy Klump December 30, 2015 This year, the Northern Cochise Fund awarded grants totaling $7,000 to five local organizations. Chiricahua Trails Volunteer Fire Department received a grant to supply its firetrucks with equipment. For NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness Southeastern Arizona), the grant will be used to provide increased staff and programs in Willcox and the northern part of the county. Healthy Farms, the Southeast Arizona Area Health Education Center, will provide assistance to the Winchester Heights area. The San Simon Valley Literacy Organization for summer arts and literacy programs. And Northern Cochise Community Hospital received funding for equipment for rural health clinics in the area. The Northern Cochise Fund, a permanent endowment, was founded by local citizens in 2009, and since then has awarded more than $20,000 in grants to facilitate community development, support youth, leadership, entrepreneurship, and culture and heritage in Willcox and the surrounding towns. The fund is overseen by a local board as a collaborative partner with the Arizona Community Foundation.
